I greatly appreciate Alex Ross’ art and picked up this piece to serve as a nice memento of my favourite comic of all time.
The marketing spiel states that this body was designed to reflect Alex Ross’ art. Regrettably, the detestable cut bicep joints are still around, and articulation has actually been further reduced, as the figure now sports a cut neck joint instead of the usual ball-jointed one, and his lats are sculpted to restrict shoulder movement.
It seems to me that the material used for the costume has reverted to the same quality of the very first DCD Superman, i.e., poor and easily nicked.
DCD’s paint application seems to have improved, but the lip gloss has been too generously applied.
I’m not really thrilled about the headsculpt, it is decently done but nothing to shout about.
The restrictive articulation of the body doesn’t inspire me to go wild with many poses, so here’s a few.
And here’s another, based on his shot with Captain Marvel from the Kingdom Come TPB.
Note that the gold bits of Capt’s outfit have flaked off, which is further evidence of DCD’s long-lasting quality costumes.
If you’re picking this up cos you need a 13 inch semi-articulated statue with a cloth costume bearing Kingdom Come Superman’s likeness to place on your shelf, this will do. If you’re looking for an action figure, walk on.
